Magoosh is a play on the Persian word “Magush,” which means “one who is highly-learned, wise and generous.” Magoosh’s team describes itself as, “a bunch of education nerds who get super stoked about helping students achieve their academic dreams.” Interested in hearing what your peers think about Magoosh GMAT Prep, read our Magoosh reviews below.
Back in 2008, co-founders Pejman Pour-Moezzi and Vikram Shenoy first began working on the concept of Magoosh. At first they managed test preparations with crowdsourced questions and answers. Later in 2009, their focus shifted towards an expert-powered preparatory platform, rather than a people-propelled experience.

Christina Bianco – :
I was juggling a demanding job and had roughly three months to prep. The video explanations for each practice question was a game changer for my studying. I also love the user experience of using the Magoosh platform, it’s very easy to use and track you progress and review all of the questions you previously got wrong. I highly recommend using Magoosh for both the GMAT and GRE prep.

Adela – :
Magoosh is okay for quant but was not a sound resource for verbal. For verbal I only stuck to official resources.
Simon – :
I used Magoosh mainly to improve on the quant side of things and it helped me improve my score by 140 points from initial practice tests to the actual GMAT. The explainer videos combined with immediate practice questions are incredibly effective.
Veronica – :
I took my first GMAT exam in Jan 2023 and my score was 750. Realizing that I should focus on improving score on Verbal, particularly in grammar. I signed up for the Magoosh GMAT PREP and focused on Verbal. It is very targeted resource and the mock test was really helpful. I eventually scored 780 in May 2023!
Christian – :
I thought Magoosh did a great job preparing me for the GMAT. I appreciated how Magoosh gave me a study plan for me to follow which really simplified the question of what should I be studying right now and for how long.
Lynn M F Nelson – :
Magoosh is a great resource. There is a lot of useful content and I would definitely recommend it to anyone prepping to take the GMAT.
Erin – :
Magoosh was great! It had tons of prep options and I loved the flashcards and sample problems. I think the UI could be improved, but overall it was a great resource that helped me earn the score I was aiming for.
Anonymous – :
I trialed several platforms and Magoosh was by far the best. I simply wanted a platform where I could do x number of problems each day leading up to my exam and Magoosh was perfect for this.
Moussa Zaatar – :
Magoosh has comprehensive, well put together content to prepare you for the GMAT. The lectures prepared me well for the Verbal section with great information on the Sentence Correction section, which I needed. It also has a large bank of questions that mirrored the official questions well. All of this content for an affordable price compared to its competitors, which is the reason I went with Magoosh. I am very happy I did!!
Evan Gaj – :
Magoosh GMAT prep and software was amazing. It provided an interactive environment to self-study, but also a large repository of questions to draw from for information. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to get a leg-up on their test prep and study plan
Ellen Schneider – :
Magoosh was an integral part of my GMAT prep. I really enjoyed the videos because they were comprehensive. Magoosh also has explanation videos for individual questions, which helped me clear up any specific misunderstanding I had as I studied. The practice tests were not the best, but I found the official prep tests coupled with Magoosh to be enough to do well on the GMAT.
Megha Soni – :
Magoosh has really great resources for GMAT/GRE test preparation. The content covers each topic in depth and also has a variety of practice questions. The flashcards apps are very easy to use and gives the option to study the content from anywhere. I would definitely recommend the test prep material offered by Magoosh.
Neena Kazouh – :
MAGOOSH GMAT offers a comprehensive range of study materials and practice questions. The video lessons are clear and informative. However, the question bank could be more diverse, and the user interface could be improved for a smoother learning experience. Overall, a solid resource for GMAT preparation.
Wasiur Rahman – :
Super helpful. Simulates test experience really well. Recommended for fast prep.
Elizabeth Farlow – :
Magoosh was a very helpful resource for my GMAT prep as it provided enough background on topics that were new for me but wasn’t overwhelming. The videos were also helpful to see how they approached specific questions as I honed my technique.
Margaret Metzger – :
Magoosh allowed me to customize my study time by identifiying question categories that I needed to practice the most. Magoosh also allowed me an unlimited number of practice test so that I could get accustomed to the length and pace of the test.
Nicholas G. Swartz – :
I found Magoosh very helpful
Ben Schneider – :
I think Magoosh has a lot of helpful materials for students. It’s almost overwhelming how much content they have.
David Logan – :
I used magoosh for a few months for the GRE. The lessons were great but I think what I liked best was the ability to more practice problems and practice tests
Giancarlo – :
Magoosh helped me improve my score by 100 points. I would highly recommend watching their videos and taking their practice exams!
Caitlin Hodes – :
I was pleased with the quality for the price at Magoosh. Although my plan didn’t have any customized tutoring, I found the Magoosh team to be quick to respond when I had questions about the lessons or practice problems.
Jenny – :
Magoosh helped me improve my score by 60 points in 4 months. I focused entirely on quant, which I struggled with greatly. The video lessons help me understand things that I could not master with other prep books. There was a plethora of practice questions, each with individual video explanations.
Soon Ee – :
The reason I chose Magoosh over other GMAT prep offerings was the program’s video lessons. It’s one thing to follow a structured syllabus and read through the material, and do the exercises – The ability to see an expert’s way of thinking and solving the challenges helped me to digest the material in an effective manner.
I am a huge fan, and would unabashedly recommend Magoosh.
Philip – :
Great platform!! Magoosh provides options targeted to the students needs and specific timelines. In my case, I had 6 months to prep for the GMAT. Magoosh provided a study timeline allowing me to manage my time and set goals to keep me on pace. I saw a 200 point increase on my GMAT score over 6 months.
Ester – :
Magoosh to the rescue! Magoosh provided an easy framework to increase my score and overall skills. I found the video explanations particularly helpful both for learning and to review questions I got wrong. I was able to increase my score 90 points using magoosh and would definitely recommend it to friends.
Robby Greenan – :
Magoosh really helped me a TON! Like many others, I took a crack at the GMAT without any tutoring, but that did not go well. The second time around I decided I needed to plan, and have someone keep my accounting. In comes Magoosh. The platform is super user-friendly! I also love how you can set a schedule for yourself, and have goals and initiatives to keep yourself on track. I recommend Magoosh to all my friends who are thinking of tackling the GMAT, because it is a one-stop-shop, and in my opinion highly affordable. Thank you for everything Magoosh!!!
Mariana Areli Cruz Lozano – :
I sincerely loved Magoosh; It is the best without any doubt. I highly recommend this platform because of three reasons: 1) Their materials are extremely useful (short, detailed, and to the point), 2) They have the best Qbank you will find in the market, to practice with lots of questions, 3) Their mock exams are very similar to the actual test; actually Magoosh’s tests are a little bit more complicated. Also, their customer service is excellent, I love they answer very quickly to anything, and I appreciate they are very kind all the time. I also like that they can “pause” your study if you need. It is very helpful because you only pay while you use the platform.
Brennan Mullins – :
Magoosh really helped me. I took the GMAT without any help at first and did very poorly. Then I found Magoosh and took the detailed courses and my score improved substantially. I highly recommend using Magoosh to prepare!

Start as early as possible to make the entire process way less stressful.
Yashaswi Pinnamareddy – :
Magoosh Test Prep is hands-down one of the best personalized and customized platforms test-takers can utilize for getting a relatively high score on their exams. I personally used the Magoosh GRE test prep and extensively utilized the 7-day free trial that helped me score consistently at 169 or 170 on the Quant of the PowerPrep GRE tests and sometimes a 163 range on the practice tests. Those at Magoosh respond pretty quickly to any questions you may have as well, so their client service is top-notch especially if you need answers before test day. I felt Magoosh is a great way to improve on time-management with their quizzes. For their AWA essays, they have a great feedback essay session with their live courses you can try in the free-trial. Magoosh’s free vocab builder is a must – it’s what surprisingly helped me score a 167 on the Verbal section and a 5.5 on the AWA during my actual GRE exam (I was thinking I would have scored near a 161 based on my previous practice so I was happy with how it turned out!).
I am sure the same results can be found with the GMAT test prep as well (tip: just because one is an MBA applicant, that doesn’t mean the verbal section should be ignored or taken lightly as top MBA & Masters programs like a balanced score amongst both Quant & Verbal).
However, I also bought the Manhattan 5lb book that is accompanied with free access to their 6 practice tests online – so that also helped me hone my quant & verbal logical reasoning skills further. In the end, though, while these resources help with practice, the success is reliant upon you and your dedication to trying be a better learner. While I find official practice from the test maker is Gold, Magoosh is very helpful for knowing the shortcuts & tricks needed to ace the exam. Plus, read a lot (like read the news, The Atlantic, New York Times – even on topics you may not follow everyday like architecture & music composition) and you will be set up for success. For quant, pair Magoosh with the Manhattan book & with your personal study by utilizing Khan Academy’s free Economics courses. When you apply the math tricks from Magoosh to your daily life to strengthen your quant and business skills, I guarantee you will notice a change. Granted, unexpectedly, Geometry questions tripped me up a little during my actual exam (not sure if it was the nerves), I was okay with the 165 on quant during my GRE as you can still take courses like MBA Math and have a shot at getting into your MBA program. Though, I encourage one to try for a 169/170.
GMAT may have been favored traditionally and is an ideal choice if you are comfortable with that test, so use Magoosh and other similar sources to prepare for that, especially if you are in a time crunch and have a busy work schedule. However, don’t feel pressured to take that test as many top b-schools have been accepting the GRE as well. Your success, as adcoms say, is dependent on your holistic applicant profile so focus on your personal statements & interview prep. Test scores can help in getting access to scholarships, so always aim high & never give up! Test preparation can be a grueling process at times, causing you to doubt yourself, but Magoosh for sure makes the process seem effortless with their user-friendly platform. So for future MBA students or other grad applicants, I highly recommend checking out the affordable service and, trust me, you won’t regret it!
🙂
P.S. For those planning on taking the GRE, use the free pdf of the GRE Big Book by ETS which has 27 older practice tests from the old test style (though outdated, it definitely helped me in my overall prep!)

Your MBA Application & School Advice:
I think I may have listed majority of my advice & tips above. As someone who is applying during Round 3 (I know the process and filling out all those apps can be tough esp. during this round but fingers crossed, since schools often do save spots for some top applicants in this round), I would say that start your list with schools you genuinely would want to attend and see if the school is a fit for you. Sometimes the school can still be a great fit for you, but adcoms may not always notice that in an applicant unless you show and tell in your interviews/essays (so don't give up, even if they turn you away!). Persistence is key and always keeping an open mind to schools you may not have initially thought of is also critical. Sometimes, for outlier or nontraditional applicants (like me), we have to go an extra mile or two to find the school that appreciates the inner potential of an applicant regardless of how different your background may be. Worst case scenario, one can reapply another year.

Before applying, attend as many events as possible to get a feel for the culture, people, and program. This will help you narrow down your school selection and it's motivating to picture yourself at a certain school. I also encourage you to do a lot of self-reflection and write it all down. Your MBA Application & School Advice:
Register for at least two testing days prior to the round one deadline to give yourself plenty of time to prep and improve your score without having to commit to your first one for round one applications. Contact current students in each of your interest areas to get a clear sense of what your short and long-term goals are prior to the essay writing process and continue to talk with current students through clubs and affinity groups in preparation for your interviews. Their insight was really helpful in making my application more targeted and in understanding what might get thrown at me by each school during interviews.
Kaitlyn – :

Your MBA Application & School Advice:
GRE/GMAT is just one component of the MBA application process! Especially following COVID, many schools place less weight on the score. My advice would be to prep and complete your standardized test early so that you have more time to complete the other more personal parts of your application such as your essays.
Grant Kirkpatrick – :
Magoosh has a great, actionable program that gives you a steady plan to do around work. It has options for how quickly and intensely you want to prepare. I also found the explanation videos at the end of each question to be incredibly informative. It also has the data to tell you where you need to work more on within math and verbal sections. I also think the price is the fairest of all the prep programs.

Jared – :
Magoosh GMAT came highly recommended by a friend and happened to be on sale as well. Overall, the program is set up very well with an easy to use interface. Magoosh contains many 5-15 minutes videos covering all necessary topics needed for the test. They include agenda’s and discussion boards to help study. There were over 500+ questions for each Quant and Verbal sections and can be taken individually or in a test setup. I have never used another test prep program, but I was happy with Magoosh. I would keep an eye out for when it is on sale though as there might be other programs better for the full price

Review each school and program in-depth. Start early to give yourself plenty of time for the GMAT and all other requirements for your applications. Try to talk to as many Alumni as possible.
Teja Cherukuri – :
I did the self-paced prep over the span of 6 months. Thanks to the pandemic, I was really able to go through the different videos and test strategies and apply them. Knowing which skills I was lacking and being able to address them through more guided practice was definitely advantageous as there are plenty of questions to practice with. The one con I can think of is that due to the course’s self-paced (and self-motivated) nature, it is really easy to not have any accountability for progress.
Overall, the price is extremely reasonable for the quantity and quality of the content provided, as long as you are willing to schedule time in your schedule for it!

Only apply to schools that you truly believe you will fit in with. If you do not really care about a school, it will certainly show up in your application and you will have wasted your time and your money.
Ruvimbo Mangoma – :
As someone who started off with Magoosh’s GMAT then opted to write the GRE instead, I had experience using both products. Overall, the lesson plans were well constructed, easy to follow, and engaging. The platform, also allows you to track your progress, as well as see in real-time how many hours are left in your lesson plans, depending on the plan you chose. For Verbal, the explanations on word definitions were also done relatively well, and the tutors going through, how they would think through a reading comprehension question, line by line was also well done. I found the Quant questions on Magoosh, to be slightly different than what you would find on ETS, the ETS guide had questions that were more useful in that regard. Overall, I believe the ETS Guide and PowerPrep Exams, would be the number 1 best source for Prep, Magoosh, would be a secondary yet cost-effective prepping method. Would definitely choose it again over the more expensive test prep brands.
MBA Program & Grad Year:

Your MBA Application & School Advice:
For students that are considering business school, I would start prepping at least a year and a half to two years in advance. This will give you ample time to understand your career goals and where you want to go, hone in on schools that you are interested in as well as if the school will allow you to reach your post-MBA goals, and most importantly have adequate time to study for the GRE/GMAT, stay on top of your work schedule as well as write the all-important essays. Spreading the required work over a longer time period as opposed to squeezing it all in 6 months, as I did I believe will help you stay sane!
Brett Pohlman – :
Magoosh organizes all of the content into a digestible and easy to understand format. Not only does it make it easy to run through the material the first time, but it also makes it easy to review topics you may need some more work on. The flexibility is also amazing, making it easy to study with whatever time window you have available. Your membership to Magoosh is also good for a long time, so if for some reason your GMAT prep gets put on pause, it’s available for you to come back to. I highly recommend and wish there was a way to spread the word so others could avoid wasting their money on Manhattan prep. Also, it’s so cheap!!
For those also considering Manhattan prep:
I got a private tutor from Manhattan test prep at the beginning of my GMAT studying and all it was a gigantic waste of money. All it did was make me that I needed more structure to my GMAT prep. I got Magoosh and it was such an improvement, and cost a fraction of what I paid for Manhattan prep.

UCLA Anderson 2022
Your MBA Application & School Advice:
There are so many programs to research for your MBA so it's really easy to start looking at programs based on their ratings. While this can definitely workout for a lot of students, I think it's helpful to begin the application process by outlining: 1) Why do I want to I want to get my MBA? 2) What do I want out of a program? For me, I focused too hard on changing my answers to fit what I believed the top programs wanted, and not enough time thinking about what I truly wanted, which was to breakout of the Midwest bubble and go to an unfamiliar large city that had plenty of job opportunities in my target industry. Once I realized this, I focused in on only schools that fit that description, and was super satisfied with my choice.
Hoguer sanchez – :

Magoosh was a wonderful and cost-efficient prep service for MBA graduate admissions. My favorite aspect was the live-chat feature which allowed me to get direct help from a Magoosh expert whenever something was unclear (whether it be subject/question specific or about the test itself).
My review is 4 stars as opposed to 5 on the basis of perceived outdated source material.
My personal experience when I went in to take the actual test was that many items–that were stressed time and time again through Magoosh training videos–promised to be present on the test were not there at all, leaving me unprepared for things that were actually on the test from time spent on items that were no longer a prominent factor on the current test.

Focus on your strengths and transferrable skills. Show personality.

I used Magoosh to study for the GRE exam. They were easy to follow, and took a lot of the complication out of the process. Stanford GSB 2021
Your MBA Application & School Advice:
Start early and keep a journal to reflect and track your ideas as you work through your application. I found it incredibly helpful to have at least two mentors (who knew me well) to bounce ideas off of as I dug deep into "what matters most to me and why" as well as "Why Stanford and why now." As trite as it might sound, stay true to who you are and resist the temptation to weave a narrative that you may think admissions officers "want to hear." Above all, identify ways to maintain (at least some semblance of) balance in your life -- while it may be tempting for perfectionists to immerse yourself 100% in GMAT prep and application essays while juggling a full-time job, it's just as important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and find time to pursue fulfilling activities that rejuvenate you (and help bring perspective to your MBA journey -- perspective that's easy to lose sight of when you're knee deep in GMAT prep and writing essays).

My advice would be that when you write your essays for admissions ensure that you take some time to step away for a day or two and reread them with fresh eyes. Read the essays for coherency and grammatical errors. By stepping away your brain will no longer "fill in the blanks" over the awkward sentence structuring and errors.

Magoosh was excellent for it’s flashcards and quick videos. I would not say it is a comprehensive test prep, but is better for reviewing after you’ve done something substantial (e.g., Manhattan Prep, Kaplan). The Magoosh Test Prep was great for the quant portion with simple examples building up to more difficult word problems. The verbal was not as detailed and the examples were not the same as the actual GMAT samples. I spent more time, reviewing Magoosh hints and suggestions and applied the hints the official guide verbal passages. When it comes to applying to MBA Programs, it is imperative that you do you research and figure out the right program for you. In relation to filling out your application, don't until the last minute to fill out your MBA Applications. Take your time and do it the right way. Also, have someone review your essays and resume before submitting your application.

This was a great way to prepare for the GMAT. The web access is interactive and allows you to work at your own pace. The UI was great as it let you keep track of your progress. They also had a money back guarantee if you don’t improve your score by a certain amount of points (which is why I signed up). I used this primarily as a supplement to my other practice which was not ideal as it was a little difficult for me to find things to hone in on instead of training everything.

Janie Ng – :
I started off at point zero. I had been out of school for 10+ years and was extremely rusty and slow in my quantitative skills. I need to review and re-learn my high school math. Magoosh was helpful with the videos, coupled with the examples to re-build my quant skills. The videos were a plus, as you need both the written and visual to understand concepts. I would recommend using Magoosh to prep for the GMAT. The few verbal videos I used were also helpful, I did focus on Verbal as much. If you need a quant refresher and like a more tutorial approach, pick Magoosh. The samples they used were not exactly the same as the official guide, GMAT questions, so I only applied what I learned from Magoosh to the O.G. questions. That worked better for me.

The application process is extensive writing essays, fine tuning resumes, ordering transcripts, and researching schools for a good fit, etc. I can not stress how important to do your research, it is only 2 years, but it will be the best or the hardest two year of your education if you don't like your school. This is a journey for your future and own growth. Do not get an M.B.A. because that is the next step, do it because you will need it for your growth and to pursue leadership roles. Good luck.

Magoosh is very good for visual learners. The instructors, like those of any other prep course, are clearly experts in their field – but really set themselves apart in breaking down concepts and explaining the underlying logic for solving each problem. I improved my math by a lot my using them and I have recommended them to friends since.
Magoosh was also the very economical choice compared to in-person bootcamps or even reading-based programs. It was only $99 when I used it which was more than worth the money. I would recommend pairing it with another source though, as I often heard that ManhattanPrep was more difficult than the problems in Magoosh.

It absolutely helps to have a consultant through the process. Crafting your story is incredibly important, and although Wharton's essays aren't as open-ended as GSB and HBS, for example, you want to create a cohesive and compelling narrative with very limited space. In terms of the TBD interview, it was more an exercise of understanding your leadership, problem solving, and collaboration. I prepped a lot for the TBD but in the end it came down to ensuring the group was working together rather than making sure my ideas were the ones that were used.

I absolutely loved using Magoosh to prep for the GMAT. Prior to Magoosh, I attempted to prep for the GMAT using a prep textbook, but after taking the GMAT for the first time, I didn’t do well. That’s when I turned to Magoosh! Using Magoosh, I was able to improve my GMAT score by 100 points! I loved the tutorial videos Magoosh has. They really helped me to understand how to approach and solve certain problems. They also pointed out some key tricks the GMAT may throw at you. I also loved how Magoosh has a ton of practice questions. They really break down every aspect of the exam, but I mainly focused on the Quantitative portion. Magoosh provides a ton a very specific tutorial videos on how to tackle the Quantitative portion of the exam. Overall, I’m extremely thankful I found Magoosh, because it was extremely helpful and super affordable! 10/10 would recommend for GMAT prep.

Magoosh has excellent resources and a large bank of high quality GMAT questions. The quality of your preparation is really dependent on how high quality the type of questions you study are. Magoosh does a good job of providing a battery of questions that will prepare you well for the exam. I heard about Magoosh on one of my favorite blogs “What they Didn’t Teach You in History Class”. It was a great program, easy to use, and MOST IMPORTANTLY: AFFORDABLE! Ultimately my University didn’t require the GMAT or GRE because I already had two Master’s Degrees. But this is worth the money.

I used the Magoosh Online Prep service to prepare for my GMAT. The videos were super helpful and clear that I didn’t need a “real” person. There were so many good practice questions and useful analytics and ways to review my practice tests. I paid much more for in-person services at other companies but Magoosh was just better in how it was organized and presented material.

As a self-study kind of learner I thought Magoosh was the most cost-effective and efficient program out there and I wasn’t wrong. Excellent self paced online review option. The course could be adjusted to the amount of time one had to study. Well structured curriculum with clear video lessons (with transcripts), a good amount of practice questions (with explanations of answers), and great assessment tools to review how one did on each curriculum topic and the difficulty level of each question.

Magoosh GMAT Prep has been helpful in so many ways! First, the study guides are determined by how many days left in taking the test. From 1 year, 6 months, to even a month, a custom made designed study guide is set for you. The videos are absolutely helpful, as well as the study questions. There are no regrets using Magoosh, and I would use it again!

Magoosh made it easy to study on busy, professional schedule. I loved their online flashcards and multiple choice quizzes, which I could do during my train commute to work. I think the quizzes and tests were quite representative of the test, and I was able to become more confident before taking the test by improving my practice test scores on Magoosh. The online course videos were also easy to follow and helpful. Five stars!!

Start early, of course! Also, I think the best way to prepare and think about what you want to write in your application essays for each school is to talk to a current student or alumni of the school you are applying to. You can only learn so much from a school's website or even touring its campus. The way to really get to know the school, and show that you've done your research as well, is to incorporate insights from current and past students.

Out of the three different GMAT prep platforms I used (eGMAT, Magoosh, and Manhattan), Magoosh’s offered the most organized video curriculum through which I could really focus on tackling my weaknesses and nailing down on the types of questions that I would see at 700+ score level.

Fast Lane Nate – :
Magoosh was by far the best test prep I used to get a great GMAt score. I took the GMAt three times. The first time I took the test I studied by myself by reading the GMAT book and doing problems. This didn’t help because I couldn’t grasp the concepts. The second time I took the test went to an online company, spent a whole bunch of $$$, and went through their whole training program. I didn’t gain much insight because I was pressured to finish my studies in 100 days. I work a tough schedule and needed more time than that.
Once again I didn’t do well on the test.
I vowed to take the test one final time this time I remembered a company that had really good forums and GMAT Official Guide 12th to 13th Edition problem conversion Excel Spreadsheets. I bought the old book and used the sheet to see which problems made it over to the new edition and if I can search for good answer explanations. This took me straight to Magoosh. They were really cheap compared to the money I spent on another online session. I loved their answer explanation for every problem they have in their program and most of the answers for the GMAC had explanation videos as well. They had really cool mobile flashcards to quiz myself weekly which I took advantage of.I think the best part was their study guides. I took their advice on the study guides and went straight to work. I studied for over 6 months and got the score I needed to get into business school. Definitely worth every penny and very affordable.

Magoosh was very helpful in explaining basic concepts and reminding me of certain things I had forgotten. I found the explanatory videos very helpful as well. In my experience, Magoosh was a supplementary and readily available resource, and I liked that it was valid for a year. Ultimately, I ended up enrolling in a class because I needed more accountability and one on one time to really understand some concepts I was missing. Magoosh for the math section was very helpful. The english section I didn’t find as helpful and did not utilize as much.

Magoosh increased my score by 90 points. I really enjoyed Mike’s videos! I really loved the set-up of the math videos, but I think the verbal videos were more difficult to understand. There were a lot of terms that we didn’t have to memorize but were still confusing, and I’m a native English speaker. I do appreciate that they have solutions to almost every problem in the OG, and I love that Magoosh’s problems show you what concepts they tested below the problem. You have to have a lot of self-discipline to study on your own time. Follow the study guides even if you don’t feel like studying one day, and you will thank yourself come test day!

I used Mangoosh to help me with both English and Math. The material provided by Mangoosh for English is very thorough and yet precise given the kind of verbal skills tested on the GMAT. I went through all their videos in a few days and was able to convert my score from a 66 percentile to a 90 percentile. The videos helped me learn how to manage each problem in under 1.5 minutes even when the questions were verbose. I would recommend anyone aiming for a 700+ score on their GMAT to have a thorough understanding of the problems tested and the best way to attempt those problems within a stipulated time which is ideally 1.5 minutes.

I used magoosh’s online test prep program and I really like it. The best part is that they have video tutorials for every type of question you may see on the GMAT. The other part that I really liked is that they provide a huge bank of questions for both the math and verbal sections of the GMAT. I think it is around 650 question. The price is pretty reasonable as well. I think it costs about $150 for year-long access to test prep material. They also provide you with a handful of practice tests as well. It is a great program if you are good at managing your own time and are self-disciplined. If not, I would go for another program that isn’t online. The only reason I give it four stars is that for the math portion I didn’t think the strategies they used were the most effective strategies. They took way too long and were not always intuitive, but then again my quant skills are already not as great, so you may have a totally different experience.

Magoosh is a great program for anyone who is self driven and looking to study on their own schedule. I was already in school when I was studying for the GMAT so I needed flexibility in terms of when I could watch the videos and do practice questions. I really enjoyed the smartphone app, which made it easy for me to watch tutorials on my lunch break or even on the train. The website offers several study guides that you can personalize based on how much time you have before your test and what your weaknesses are. Applying for an MBA is an intensive process. Do a lot of informational interviews to figure out what the right type of school is for you and to refine your message on why exactly you need an MBA. Schools want to see your short and long-term goals very clearly defined, even if those things change once you enroll. Film and time yourself answering behavioral interview questions so you have a powerful, concise answer ready for anything they could throw at you.

Magoosh also accurately estimates how well you will do on the gmat based the rate in which you correctly answer questions.

Magoosh was a Very helpful GMAT prep resource.
The most valuable part of the prep was The videos. Watching the videos was very helpful to get me started studying. I would definitely recommend this resource to students who are looking for a refresher on the math side.
Watching The instruction videos were a great way to relearn and refresh some of the algebra and geometry lessons i had not thought about since high school.
I also enjoyed the practice problems along the way to check in on your Progress.
The website was clear and easy to navigate as well.

While this is a popular and relatively inexpensive option for GMAT prep, it didn’t work for me. The lectures are too individual and not combined in blocks. I found assignments (test problem examples) being a little far from the actual problems (you can tell those problems were created by someone outside of GMAT). However, I know some people who got 740 using just Magoosh. It is all about individual preference.

Magoosh far exceeded my expectations for a test prep software. It was simple to use. It taught the material and also provided tricks to work faster, which is critical on the GMAT. By utilizing Magoosh for 3 weeks, I was able to improve my score by 40 points. I was not able to get through all of the Magoosh material or practice questions in time. Otherwise, I likely would have met the 50 point guarantee. I highly recommend Magoosh!

Magoosh did a good job in explaining the quant section of the gmat. By starting from the basic rules, it allowed you to follow along smoothly until you got to the harder, test like MATERIAL. I would highly RECOMMENDED magoosh, especially for those who are looking to review their basics. however, I would not use magoosh as the only resource for studying. I would recommend focusing on the official guide PRACTICE questions rather than using magoosh question bank. These questions tend to be random and not adapt to you skill set accordingly. since i was not looking to score in the 675-750 range the questions became IRREVERENT to my skill set.

Magoosh is awesome. You have to be determined and able to follow a study plan without any outside motivations to be successful. The videos are very helpful. i really like that you can watch them at 1.5 or 2x speed. videos consist of micro lectures on problem types and then working out the solutions of practice problems. the site also keeps track of which videos you have watched to help you complete the material.

MAGOOSH WAS A GREAT RESOURCE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM FOR THE BREADTH OF CONTENT THEY COVER. I USED THEIR QUESTION BANK AND VIDEOS AS MY ONE OF MY PRIMARY SOURCES OF STUDY MATERIAL, SECOND ONLY TO THE OFFICIAL GUIDE. MY SCORE ON THEIR PRACTICE TEST ENDED UP BEING SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN MY ACTUAL SCORE. HOWEVER, I HAD TAKEN THE GMAC PRACTICE TEST, SO I HAD THAT AS ANOTHER DATA POINT. Magoosh GMAT prep online software was fantastic to help me study for the GMAT. They had an excellent selection of practice tests, questions, and videos to help you study. The test questions and practice tests i actually thought was more difficult than the actual test. Shown by my test score which was 70 points higher than where my practice tests came in. they would be a great choice for a well disciplined student who doesn’t need outside assistance to help study. I can sincerely say i would not have done as well on the gmat as i did without magoosh! I would suggest a strong determination to stick to the study guide that you select up front, and then committing the necessary time to that end. Magoosh had many many video lessons which was a good change of pace from studying a textbook. The video explanations for practice problems, along with suggested lesson videos was one of my favorite features. I did notice that some references were out of date, particularly those that referred to the OG book. I think that the flash card app could be more reactive to the persons answers rather than cycling my through the questions. The three month guide seemed grueling and I ended up veering from the suggested study schedule. Some sort of adjustable plan to fit your needs based on progress would have been awesome.

My MBA application advice is to take the time to reflect on your journey so far and realize the puzzle pieces that have fallen in place to get you to where you are today and why you have chosen this specific path for tomorrow. Consider the job experience that you have to date. What did you like, what didn't you like? What aspects of your career have been challenging, easy, rewarding, boring? Also consider what type of people you tend to surround yourself with, as well as how your personality compares to those around you and those in your chosen career field. Through the application process and the writing of many essays, I realized how far I have come and that I am making the right decision for my future.

I took the GMAT twice. The first time around I studied on my own only using the official guide. Second time around I used Magoosh. My overall score increased by 20 points which was a little disappointing. However I was very pleased with the increase in my integrated reasoning score.

Magoosh provided great help as a prepared to take the GMAT. To give you an idea of how much it helped, my initial practice test was a 590, and my final result was a 700.
Magoosh is excellent for several reasons:
1. Content Learning – You learn the material you need to know through videos on all of the most salient content. The instructors give step-by-step instructions in how to solve problems, but also strategies in HOW to solve these problems given the time constraints of the GMAT. As anyone who has taken the GMAT knows, these shortcut strategies are absolutely critical.
2. Study Plan Formats – I liked this. Few websites or book series actually break your practice down into manageable chunks, leaving you to aimlessly solve problems. Magoosh gives you a plan of study to work for 1 to 6 months. I found the 3 month strategy to work best for me.
3. Tracking – You always know how you’re doing with the Magoosh practice problems. Many people say that the OG are the only reliable practice problems to use when preparing. While they are indicative of the quality of problems you will find on the GMAT, I thought Magoosh’s practice tests and problems “got my head in the game” – these are so similar to the OG problems that I don’t think it’ll make or break you. My strategy: practice with Magoosh first, then in your last month of study, switch to OG and use Magoosh to help facilitate the explanation of OG answers.
Overall, a fantastic product.

Over-preparation for the GMAT is real. TARGET the areas of the GMAT for which you need the most practice and then drill those specific areas. I can't tell you how much time is wasted doing problems that you don't need to practice. Get this test out of the way, so that you can focus on the more important things: like why you want to go to business school in the first place...
Kristina – :
Magoosh is great for Quant prep. It gives you the ability to really isolate the types of problems that are challenging for you, and then drill them. The videos are great to help you walk through errors in your approach. I do not think that Magoosh verbal is similar to the verbal questions on the actual GMAT, but what works for everyone can be different.

The GMAT is important, but also only one aspect of your application. Make sure that any weak parts of your application are made up for by other strengths. GPA, recommendations, resume, and essay questions all heavily matter and are factored into getting that initial interview. If you have a lower GPA, and your undergrad quant classes are low, taking a class or two before applying, and doing well in those classes can help a lot.
Make sure your personality shines through in your application. Have some fun with it. Best of luck.

Give yourself time to retake the test at least once before the deadline. Additionally, make sure you think through why MBA, why now? Most interviews and applications will ask this question, so it's important that you nail this portion of the essay.

Magoosh was hands down the reason I did well on the GMAT. I started with Manhattan initially, but for certain topics, I couldn’t seem to improve my score. With Magoosh, you can drill down to the topics you need to work on with filters for those questions, and then watch video tutorials of those that you seem to consistently have trouble with. I found this to be a really useful supplement to my studying. I only used Magoosh for the 2 weeks leading up to my text (after having used Manhattan as my base for 3 months), and I improved my score by 60 points on exam day. Highly recommend!

I found Magoosh particularly helpful for quant preparation. Magoosh’s videos provided simple and clear explanations for each of the quant concepts covered on the GMAT. I also prepared with one of the larger GMAT prep companies and found that Magoosh’s videos were able to breakdown problems and concepts to a basic level and provide key shortcuts or time saving ideas that were more intuitive than what I was provided with other prep courses. Magoosh practice problems were very helpful and reflected the actual GMAT level of difficulty, if not slightly harder, which is great. Towards the end of preparation I did run out of new questions to practice, but was able to go back over questions I’d done early on. I think the study schedules Magoosh provided were also very helpful and suggested the right amount of time, however, you have to be accountable and stick too it, whereas, there may be more incentive with programs where you attend a class in person – personal preference. I did not feel that Magoosh’s verbal preparation was particularly good so I’d say Magoosh is amazing for those who need extra quant help and it is what made the real difference in my quant score, but for verbal you will need to supplement.

If I were to redo the whole process of studying for the GMATs and applying to MBA programs, I would make sure to get the GMATs out of the way as soon as possible. I would first look into the MBA programs that I would target and keep in mind of when their first round application deadlines were. Then I would start studying at least 6 months ahead of those deadlines to make sure I finish the GMAT exam about a month or two ahead of the MBA round one deadlines. That way, I would be able to focus entirely on my applications without having to worry about GMAT studies or upcoming test dates in the back of my mind. Overall, I believe that the test prep was very helpful. I liked that the information was detailed with videos. Some of the information was redundant, but I appreciated that it was being reviewed very well. Studying can be incredibly rough when it is for something this important, but I felt well prepared after reviewing with this program. I was also pleased that I found the mobile app and used it often. Thanks!

In total, I think the content was good. The video tutorials were clear, explained well, and helpful. They also mirrored “easy” practice questions. I like that there was a “FAQ” section that accompanied the videos with commonly asked questions. However, the white screen with plain black font (on the tutorials) was not the most pleasing to look at for hours on end and was somewhat boring.

Magoosh helped me get back on track towards admission to an elite MBA program. When I first prepared for the GMAT, I thought I had done enough prep through another provider and felt confident. That confidence was shattered when 570 (Q38, V30) flashed on the screen. I almost threw in the towel, but I decided to give it one more go. A friend of mine raved about this product called “Magoosh”, and at first I was really hesitant. I thought wow, this product is really fairly priced and they have a bunch of sales – suspisions grew. Nonetheless, I listened to my friend and purchased a premium package combo with GMATClub exam access.
After watching just a few videos and going through some practice questions with video explanations, I was able to see why some people thrive with Magoosh. I am an AV learning – I learn well when someone explains and shows me how to handle a problem. I do not do well when I work with books or just questions and answers explained in words and numbers. This was the first point of distinction where Magoosh is beyond other products that are out there. There is a video explanation for EVERY practice question. Mike McGary became my virtual best friend – and many of my MLT fellows would joke about how we had Saturday night plans with Mike.
Needless to say, the trust I placed in Magoosh paid off. I was able to earn a 740 (Q49, V41) on my retake. The course emphasizes learning the fundamentals down to the core, and understanding how questions can disguise what is really being asked – if you know the fundamentals well, you can and will do well on the GMAT. As I have said to many of my friends and peers, if I could invest in Magoosh, I would – they are such a solid group of professionals and I couldn’t imagine my GMAT journey without them.

Be your true and authentic self in every component of the application. Share your essays with your friends and ask them if they could hear your voice. Share your essays with acquaintances without telling them the prompt and see if they can correctly guess what the prompt is. Get accepted or denied on the merits of your true self, not on those of an artificial candidate you portray as yourself.

I really enjoyed the Magoosh GMAT program. Previous to trying Magoosh, I used a variety of other programs that i found more difficult. Magoosh has a variety of great videos for every single topic, as well as quizzes. I thought the quizzes could be a little more difficult, but overall, I found this to be the most interactive GMAT prep program.

The magoosh training fit me very well. I bought the official GMAT books, but reading the questions and then having to flip to the answers didn’t provide me with as much insight as the video lessons and tests with video answers. I liked that I could set the speed at 1.5x, since I found the presenter to be a slow talker for my taste. I focused on the Quant side since I couldn’t see how the Verbal side would help me that much, and since I hadn’t taken a college math course in 12 years!
One thing that I didn’t realize is that their two practice tests pull questions from the bank of practice questions. I completed all of the practice questions, then took the test, so instead of getting the questions right on the test, I simply “remembered” the answers from before. If I was to do it again, I would take the tests after I finished all the lessons, then I would practice more from the bank of questions.
The questions and tests themselves I found to be more difficult than the actual GMAT. I did not score above 700 on their tests, but I did score a 740 on the actual GMAT.
If you have the official GMAT book, magoosh also offers free video explanations (without having to buy their course) for many of the questions in the book.
Overall, I found it a good, structured way to study, while also being able to tailor my study to my greatest needs.

Magus did a great job of preparing me for the GMAT. I did not have much of a quantitative background besides high school math (algebra, geometry, etc.) and I felt very prepared going in. I followed their short term plan because I decided to go get my MBA a month before the admission deadline. The sentence correction flash cards and math flash cards were also very helpful since they could be downloaded onto my iPhone. I would definitely suggest using Magoosh as a tool to dominate the GMAT

The MBA is just another bump in the road one must overcome to achieve their goal. If you take the time out to practice and revise then it can be successfully completed. Magoosh provides its users with review questions, as well as videos to see step by step explanations. Many times just seeing the answer or even the breakdown in a book isn’t enough. Having a voice available to explain why certain procedures are done will give you a better understanding. This is why I enjoyed utilizing the resources offered by Magoosh. It provided me with a number of options to help with my preparation.

Magoosh helped raise my score significantly. It is a very intuitive program that I could use at my own pace and learn from my results question by question. I was able to focus specifically on just my weaknesses at times and then take practice GMAT tests when I felt that I had improved.

Magoosh provided me the resources I needed in order to prepare for my exam. I was very tense at first hearing the test difficulty, but their website as well as the iphone apps they have allowed me to review and quickly learn how to effectively answer the test questions (as they also have a pattern and format) effectively through their detailed guide. They even have a forum where you can view all the discussions in case you have a particular question in mind that you would like clarified, and they respond promptly. At the same time, think about your goals and take time to truly understand how the school's curriculum fit into enabling you to achieve these goals.

Magoosh was the most practical, resourceful and not to mention affordable tool I came across while prepping for my GMAT. As someone who learns best by doing, the sample questions, coupled with explanatory videos proved invaluable in helping to identify my learning gaps and turn those gaps into strengths. Magoosh is the perfect study tool for those who are interested in preparing independently. The quantitative section is excellent and breaks down each problem step by step. It comes with several study guides that you can choose from based on the time frame you would like to prepare and actually take the exam. The best part to me is the score scale which helps you see your progress. The score I earned on the actual exam was very similar to what Magoosh said I would earn. I was pleasantly surprised by all of the resources offered by Magoosh. The materials helped me think about the test from a different perspective and helped me approach the problems with a fresh and open mind. I was impressed by both their quantitative and qualitative methodologies! Since it had been a while since I had taken any tests, this was just what I needed to get back in the right mindset to take the GMAT. I found, that if I dedicated a set time each day to the materials, it was easier to digest and also to get focused on the task at hand. Magoosh does an excellent job of preparing students for either the GMAT or the GRE tests. One of the nice things about Magoosh is that they explain the differences between the two, and provide many options for studying for both. With so many business schools which currently accept the GRE, it was valuable to know which test would better showcase my strengths and to focus my studies towards doing well on that particular test. All of the information provided was helpful in getting me prepared to take the GRE and get a high score. I would definitely recommend Magoosh to a friend or a colleague!

Magoosh’s materials are easy to use, easy to follow and well presented but there is one big ‘BUT’. The math content doesn’t look like the best available for the GMAT. The content is really well explained – but it isn’t the exact content you need. I spent some 120 hours with Magoosh between my 1st and 2nd attempts at the test and my score stayed flat – exactly flat. After a similar time investment with Kaplan between attempts 2 and 3, I boosted my quantitative score by 9 points (raw) or 60 points (adjusted).

I downloaded the Magoosh application on my iPhone 5s and it was the best decision I ever made! It covered all of the subjects that will be on the GMAT: Verbal, Math, AWA, and Integrated Reasoning. I listened to the lectures on my way to work as well as while I would relax at home and it really helped me. I’m not the best in math, so it was really helpful that the professor broke down the problems: the question, asked you to work on it on your own, told you the common mistakes, gave you the answer and several ways on how to get that answer. It helped me a lot and prepared me for the exam.

I took the GMAT twice and the first time I took the test I did not take advantage of Magoosh products. My first test, I only used the official study guide which gave the necessary information but it did not give that information in different ways. I studied for the test originally by reading and doing practice questions. Before I took the GMAT the second time, I realized the best way to increase my score was not just to study more but to change the way I was studying. By alternating different methods of studying, more information can be absorbed and different information will be more easily learned through different mediums. I used Magoosh’s flashcard apps which gave me a way to repeatedly quiz myself and make sure I understood the answer rather than just answering a question and moving on to the next one. The app helped me bring my verbal from 60th percentile to 91st percentile and overall from 600 to 660.

The best part of the Magoosh software was the in-depth content for the videos when learning the material that was going to be tested on the GMAT. I did not have a good understanding of the material on these videos allowed me to build a strong foundation.
The one issue I had with Magoosh was that the questions were not as detailed as I saw on Manhattan Prep and the actual GMAT test itself. The lack of detail in these questions put me a little behind schedule because the difficulty level was not what I was used to when sticking with only Magoosh in the beginning.

Study for the GMAT/GRE a few months in advance of the test. That gives you time to study at your own pace.
When it comes to applying, be yourself! The AdComs will appreciate it.

The courses were very helpful for preparing. I was surprised by how much my test scores improved with this service. I initially thought I would do Magoosh, and then either Kaplan or Manhattan, but after my test scores were in line with my target, i didn’t feel the need for additional course work. great value!

Your MBA Application & School Advice:
Give yourself enough time to write and re-write your essays! I had different people review, and ended up completely re-writing an essay a week before they were due. It turned out so much better, but it would have been horrible had I not had enough time.

I PURCHASED THIS SERVICE AFTER MANHATTAN PREP AND IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO FIND OUT WHERE I WAS REALLY STRUGGLING. IT INCREASED MY SCORE OVER 100 POINTS IN ONLY A MONTH. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT, THE VIDEOS AND QUIZZES ARE REALLY WELL DONE AND ALLOW YOU TO FOCUS ON TARGET AREAS.

Magoosh’s straightforward, clear lessons were perfect for someone like me who hadn’t taken a math class in over 5 years. I was pleased with the self-study materials and found that the course was easy to follow, especially when I needed extra practice in certain areas.

Excellent video lessons. Practice problems are very helpful and similar in difficulty and form to questions on the real test, though magoosh’s math problems are somewhat more difficult, which helps prepare you for even the toughest questions on the real test.
